Like we’ve mentioned before, many empires used to rule Sibenik. The longest empire was Venice empire (around 400 years). Other significant ones were Austrian, Hungarian and French empire during Napoleon. All these cultures left an important mark on the city’s identity. As a result, the city is filled with different monuments, fortifications or medieval roads. Even if most of them date from different ages, they manage to blend together and to provide an amazing overall look for the entire city. If you’re in Sibenik, you shouldn’t miss the St. Michael’s Fortress, the St. James’ Cathedral or the St. Nicholas’ Fortress. They are all impressive and some of them are even part of the UNESCO heritage.
2) The numerous festivals
Sibenik is also called a “town of festivals” and it is a very active city and this is proved by the numerous festivals that are being organized here. However, if you want to see the most interesting ones, you should visit the city in the summer. Sibenik is like a sanctuary of great festivals and here, you will find a festivity for every major topic. From medieval to cultural or sports events, you will find all of them in Sibenik. The International Children’s Festival is one of the oldest festivity and it’s been organized for almost 150 years. If you visit the city in June, you will be able to participate.

Sibenik is not that typical shopping paradise that you’re used to but it has many interesting products. The whole shopping area of the city is divided in a 2 levels marketplace, which is not very far away from the city center. The marketplace is open everyday, especially during summer and you can search for clothes or souvenirs until the sunset. In the marketplace, you can find anything from antique objects to collectibles, different accessories, clothing or souvenirs. A great thing about this place is that none of the prices are fixed and everything can be negotiated.
5) The simplicity of the place
Even though Sibenik has all of these amazing attractions, it’s not a crowded city. In fact, it’s one of the most calmest places on the Dalmatian Coast. For this reason, many tourists from neighbored countries decide to buy a house in Sibenik. What could be better than walking on the seafront while watching the sunset, knowing that your new purchased house is just around the corner. Renting a place could do it but it doesn’t compare with owning your own place. And because Sibenik is not as notorious as other coastline cities, the properties are extremely cheap. At least for now.
Sibenik is a kind of city in which you feel good and comfortable and you never have to worry that you will get bored or stuck up in a routine, because Sibenik proved that it is a live city adaptive to changes.
